Mod (or, to use its full name, Modernism) is a lifestyle based around fashion, nightlife and music that developed in London in the late 1950’s. With a strong affinity for Italian scooters, bespoke tailoring, Black R‘n’B, Modern Jazz, Ska, Booglaoo and Club Soul either at live sessions or all night ‘scene’ club-spots, fuelled by ‘uppers’ or ‘speed’ and rare imported music.
Also spawned the ‘Youthquake’ of ‘Swinging London’ a lively crop of young ‘pop-art’ UK bands, and the Freakbeat and Psych scenes from the mid-sixties onwards.
