Thirty years on from The Curse of Zounds, Steve Lake’s transcendent post-punk trio are back with a follow up The Redemption of Zounds, which is set for release by Overground Records on 26 July.
Sneak previews of the ten-track album indicate that it’s a corker that maintains the band’s tradition of superseding the received orthodoxy of the anarcho punk scene from which they first emerged back in the early 1980s. The new material retains all Steve Lake’s signature hallmarks –incisive lyrics, sharp guitars, satirical overtones, emotional terror and great, memorable tunes. Yet it sounds totally at home in a modern world that, Steve claims, ‘is as bewildering, absurd, tragic and joyful as it ever was’.
